Getting Started – Simple Money System for Mini CEOs

The 3-Jar (or 3-Envelope) System

This is one of the easiest ways to start. Create three jars or envelopes and label them:

Every time your child gets money (allowance, birthday, small job), let them divide it into the three jars.

You can start with something like:

50%

SAVE

40%

SPEND

10%

GIVE

Talk briefly about each decision:

“What are you saving for?”
“Who do you want to help with your Give jar?”

This teaches planning, patience, and generosity in a way kids can touch and see.

The Mini Budget Activity – Birthday or Fun Day

Pick an event: a birthday, family fun day, or movie night.

1. Decide on a real budget with your child.
Example: “We have $60 for your birthday party.”

2. Write down the things they want:

  • Cake
  • Decorations
  • Small gifts for friends
  • Activity (bowling, trampoline park, etc.)

3. Look up rough prices together and make choices.

“If we spend more on cake, we may need to spend less on decorations.”
What kids learn:

You can’t have everything at once.
Every “yes” to one thing is a “no” (or “later”) to something else.
Budgets aren’t punishment – they are a plan.

Business Basics for Mini CEOs – Made Simple

You don’t need to push your child to become an entrepreneur. But giving them a basic business mindset can help in any career.

If your child has an idea (bracelets, lawn mowing, dog walking, art, lemonade, tutoring), walk them through these four questions:

1. Who are you helping?

Who will buy this? Kids? Neighbors? Family? Friends from school?”

2. What problem are you solving?

“Are you helping people save time? Have more fun? Eat something tasty? Get a clean yard?”

3. How much does it cost to make or do?

“What supplies do we need? How much will they cost?”

Parent Testimonial

“My child has been using the Mini CEOs lessons for a few months now, and the growth has been amazing. The most rewarding part for us is watching them give to charity using their own ‘give jar.’ It’s teaching them to think about others, be grateful, and give back to families who need it most. As a parent, seeing that level of kindness at such a young age means everything.”
